VW

Here you see a stunning national gem of Germany. Me personally, I like the colour, and notice the original hubcaps! That's it really. I wonder what to two men standing admiring the VW had to say?

Berlin Cuisine

On our first night in Berlin we attended a dinner featuring regional cuisine and entertainment. As usual I aim to taste the local specialites. So here goes... Entree consisted of a variety of cheeses, meats, and the highlight being a pickled herring - it's an understatement to say that its' flavour was fishy. For my main course, pork and vegetables - not too bad, pork a little tough though. Dessert was a pancake filled with ice-cream and berries on the side. A refreshing conclusion to our meal. Overall, the meal in my opinion was OK, not the best I've had.

Quirky Weimar

A couple of interesting observations I made whilst in Weimar were the selling of what appeared to be rich purple and golden pearl-like objects. On closer inspection I realised that they are variety of small onions, displayed on a spiral wand - decorated with lavender, being sold at the fruit stalls. Another observation was the presence of Ginkgo Biloba symbols throughout the town, including a museum. I have no idea about this. May need to 'google' this!

Weimar - Germany

Travelling between Frankfurt and Berlin we stopped for lunch at Weimar. A modest town with no real architectual jewel, but still an attractive and relaxing atmosphere. Weimar's reknown for the likes of Luther, Schiller and Liszt. You will notice from my photographs the beauty present, such as the large sunken figurative sculpture, the Goethe and Schiller statue, plus a beautiful avenue in the centre of town. One other notable mention were the amount of fruit sellers on the street. I bought apples and oranges, very cheap.

A Place of Tranquility

Curiosity won me over, so after acquiring some essentials from the local petrol station I was tempted to find out what was behind the wall of the sunlit dome across the road from our hotel. My companions were a little skeptical, not me. So on entry it was a surprise to be walking amidst a cemetery. As you can see from my photos it truly is a tranquil and lush resting place. I was fascinated by the memorial statues and overall care taken with each family grave.

Cityscape Frankfurt

Arriving in Frankfurt after a very tiring flight from Toronto, we checked into our hotel. What a surprise we received when admiring our view from our hotel room. Frankfurt is one of Europe's main financial centre's, and has a skyline to match.
