'07 Prom

As per school graduation protocol, the celebration most anticipated by high school students is what we know as the 'Formal' or in Canada 'Prom'. It's one of the moments when you recognise the transition students are making from their existence as students to young adults in the 'real world'. As you can see there are many similarities to home. The venue, the dresses and tuxedo's, plus MC's (a teacher and his wife, dressed as Mexican's. They were asked if they were professional dancers, we all doubled over in laughter.) It was a night planned months ahead, unfortunately to be over in hours, but remembered for years.

Toronto Traffic

Toronto was no worse than Sydney driving. One of the differences was the presence of a Tram. But after observing the locals, we figured out the rules regarding this form of transport.

'We Will Rock You'

To celebrate Angela's 40th Birthday we had decided to see a production in Toronto named 'We Will Rock You'. As a musical performance it uses the music from Queen to tell the history of 'rock' music in the future and how it was outlawed. A very cleve concept and thoroughly enjoyable. One of the leads in the Canadian show was the girl who came runner-up in the competition for the new lead singer of INXS.

Vertigo

As mentioned earlier one of the features of the CN Tower is a glass floor viewing area. Well here I am feet placed on the glass looking south to the ground below. An interesting feeling as to try to focus and take a photo is a very strange feeling. Anyway, some adults and kids were running on the glass like it was gold, others not daring to even look 'over the edge' incase they were swallowed by the vision of a sheer drop.

Indigenous Street Art

Walking Yonge Street I came across examples of Aboriginal Art on the sidewalk. So here they are, enjoy!

No seein' the CN!

Luckily for us we had visited the CN Tower the previous day. This photo was taken on the Sunday as I was walking to Union Station. The tempreature was 10 C and misty, causing the tower to be engulfed by white cloud. No good for viewing Toronto and surrounding areas. For example you can see the mist from Niagara Falls on a clear day!

St Lawrence Market - Toronto

A few quick snaps of the St Lawrence Market area of Toronto, dating back to 1845. Unfortunately for us it was at the end of the day, so many of the markets etc were cleaning up after a day of trade. This area is characterised by it's Victorian architecture and 'upmarket' shopping.

CN Specifics

Seein' the CN

The CN Tower is the highest freestanding structure in the world - 553m. It's main function is radio and televsion communication. Apparently, on a clear day you can see approximately 160km. Other features are a glass floor viewing area, plus at night a spectacular view of the night lights of Toronto.

Niagara Falls - Spring time

Wow, what a difference three months makes in the cycle of Mother Nature. Mum, Carole and I drove to Niagara Falls on the May 24 weekend - you can't travel Canada and not expereince the 'falls'! The day was spectacular, and wet. The spray from the falls made it an interesting task for us attempting to capture the day.

Traffic 401

Driving home from Toronto one weekend I was met by the sight of an endless parking lot on what is the main highway for East and West bound traffic. The cars are bumper to bumper, three lanes wide for 26kms. All waiting for the removal of an accident from the previous day.
